Our Advocacy Efforts Have Paid Off!

Because of your letters, e-mails and visits, state legislators have included in the 2007-08 budget a Health Care Quality Cost and Containment Commission.

By establishing this commission, lawmakers now have a tool to study health insurance mandate proposals before making decisions, which means that fully-insured premium payers will no longer be forced to pay for health insurance mandate legislation that fails to meet practical fiscal and medical requirements. This ensures that your limited healthcare dollars are well-spent.

This latest state budget once again earmarks $300,000 to fund the commission, this time outlining the parameters of establishment - 13 members appointed by the Governor at the recommendation of both houses. These non-compensated individuals are charged with the task of evaluating mandate proposals for cost and medical efficacy. The results will be shared with the state Legislature prior to their vote.

The creation of this commission is the culmination of nearly 10 years of effort from our members. Consistently, and in this last year especially, our members have worked tirelessly to ensure that the mandate review commission remained at the forefront of their legislator’s radar and was not overshadowed by other issues.

Thank you for helping us to relieve New York’s business community from the burden of health insurance mandates. Today’s victory is a credit to your efforts.
